WALES' Euro 2016 heroes Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen have both been selected in UEFA's team of the tournament, but star man Gareth Bale has missed out.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of four players from champions Portugal to have been included in the team picked by 13 technical observers, which included ex-Manchester United managers Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes and current England under-21 boss Gareth Southgate.

The team they selected has been revealed following the conclusion of the tournament in France, which was won for the first time by Portugal on Sunday evening.

Golden boot winner Antoine Griezmann, who was also crowned the player of the tournament, is in the team, as is West Ham and France winger Dimitri Payet, but there was no space for forward Bale alongside compatriots Ramsey and Allen in the 4-2-3-1 system.

The XI was made up solely of players from the four semi-finalists, with Germany's Joshua Kimmich, Jerome Boateng and Toni Kroos joining Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio and defenders Pepe and Raphael Guerreiro as the others in the team.

Bale is perhaps the most surprising omission from the line-up, having scored in each of the three group games en route to Wales' run to the last four in their first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup.

"After quite a bit of deliberation, the observers chose a team that features the best performing players from the best performing teams at UEFA Euro 2016," said Ferguson.

"We have chosen dominant central defenders; full-backs who can defend and attack; deep lying midfielders who can control the game and dynamic, flexible and creative attackers, all of whom have the ability to create and score goals.

"We believe that the selected XI represents the best of the competition."

Wales striker Hal Robson-Kanu did not make the cut but his wonder strike against Belgium in the quarter-finals was voted goal of the tournament by viewers of BBC Match of the Day on Sunday night.

The magical Cruyff and cool finish was picked by BBC pundits Thierry Henry and Rio Ferdinand after being shortlisted by BBC viewers during the final between Portugal and France.

The strike was shortlisted along with Xherdan Shaqiri's scissor kick for Switzerland against Poland, and Cristiano Ronaldo's audacious backheel finish for the eventual champions against Hungary.
