A jiu-jitsu-loving Cwmbran youngster is set to take on the world’s best at a challenging competition in Brazil.

Archie Fielding is ready to head to Rio de Janeiro to hone his skills on June 14 before taking part in a tournament in Sao Paulo on June 22 and 23.

The eight-year-old, who is a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), MMA, Muay Thai, and wrestling, already has over 100 wins in the UK and Europe.

Training under head coach Wayne Arandjelovic at Newport MMA, Fielding has won a number of titles in BJJ including in European and World Championships.

Now the youngster is ready to compete in Brazil in the largest jiu-jitsu tournament in the world.

He plans to train at Vidigal BJJ and make a donation to their social project, assisting underprivileged children in pursuing their own dreams.

“Archie's journey began over two years ago at Newport MMA, where he's poured his heart and soul into the sport, with fantastic support from his coaches and teammates continually,” said his mother Nicole.

“Now, he's seeking to represent his team and country on the global stage.”

Fielding is kickstarting his fundraising efforts with a sunrise hike up Pen y Fan. To donate visit gofund.me/e1dc80b6.
