KIERAN Meek will pull the strings for title-chasing Pontypool next season after making the move from SSE Swalec Championship rivals Newbridge.

The 22-year-old fly-half caught Pooler's eye back in 2014 when he scored every point in 'Bridge's exceptional 19-17 Swalec Cup win against their Gwent rivals.

Meek also has experience of playing in the Czech Republic, Georgia and Romania with Crawshays and hopes that a move to Pontypool Park will lead to lifting silverware in 2017.

"I am hugely excited to be joining one of the leading clubs in Welsh rugby history," said Meek.

"Pontypool has been a massive club for so many years and I cannot wait to represent the team and its many supporters.

"Having met with the coaching and management staff, the ambition and determination to get the club back to the Premiership is infectious and we absolutely want to bring silverware back to Pontypool Park in the short term.

"I cannot wait for September to come along and to get the season under way."

Head coach Leighton Jones believes his new signing's versatility and experience will be vital.

"In welcoming Kieran into our team, we have acquired a seasoned Championship competitor who fully understands the many complexities this league presents," he said.

"Kieran is also a highly diverse backs player who can excel at fly-half, full-back or even in the centre and it is this adaptability that will be crucial in our club achieving its objectives this season.

"We have assembled a mature and experienced squad that is ready to compete for silverware next season and Kieran will only add to that depth."

Meek will hope to have plenty of quality ball to work with and playing a key role in providing that will be lock Richard East, who has signed for Pooler from title winners Merthyr.

Jones believes that East, who previously played rugby league for South Wales Scorpions, will add steel and experienced to his forwards.

"Richard's arrival is a massive step forward in solidifying our forwards setup for next season," said Jones.

"Depth in the second row has been a weak point for the last few seasons and with the likes of Elliott Ferriman unavailable due to injury for the foreseeable future, it was vital we filled that gap with an experienced head.

"Richard is an aggressive, tough and determined player who very much plays the Pontypool way. He has got stuck straight into the action at training and I have no doubt that he will play a key role in us achieving our objectives in the coming seasons."
