BEDWAS are looking to condemn a second Principality Premiership title contender on the spin to a Bridge Field defeat when they host champions Pontypridd tomorrow.

Steve Law's side have had to wait to build on their excellent 12-8 home victory against in-form Aberavon on November 7, a success earnt by flanker Andrew Waite's try and six points from the boot of fly-half Richard Powell.

They have been denied the chance to follow up on that success because of the a break while the Newport Gwent Dragons Premiership Select side took part in the British and Irish Cup.

Bedwas kept ticking along with a 22-16 win against Cross Keys at Ystrad Mynach in the Foster's Challenge Cup but things go up a fair few levels with the visit of Ponty.

While the champions have not hit the heights of recent years with three losses already to their name – to Keys, Ebbw Vale and Bridgend – they still remain the Premiership's standard bearers.

"We are at home and you always want to challenge yourself," said head coach Law. "I want to see that same spirit as we showed against Aberavon.

"We could quite easily have capitulated at the end like we did a number of times early on in the season and we need that same effort and attitude in defence, because we are certainly creating enough.

"Ponty have been the best side in Wales for a number of years so we will give them the respect that they have earnt and deserve.

"But we go into the game after a good performance against Keys and Aberavon so there is no reason why it won't be a very competitive game.

"I suppose with Ponty it all depends on their personnel, if they have got guys with contracts with Cardiff Blues playing then they are clearly stronger but I've noticed they have had a few new faces up front recently."

Bedwas will once again profit from the services of Dragons wing Aled Brew who slots into a back line that also features academy duo Connor Edwards and George Gasson.
