THE first Bedwellty Show to take place at Llancaiach Fawr Manor House proves to be a hit with visitors.

Yesterday, the agricultural show took place at the historic venue for the first time in its 130 year history. There was a range of attractions at the show including in the Llancaiach Ring; Savage Skills Stunt Bike show, Black Mountains Falconry display, Newport Sled Dogs, Freddie's Farm Duck Herding Sheepdog display

A popular attraction in the ring were the Monmouthshire and Valley Beagles who put on a display and then invited the crowd to meet the dogs. Children could also enjoy taking part in a climbing wall and try their hand at Black Mountain Archery.

There were horse and pony events, a horticultural show, children crafts stalls, cattle competitions as well as a poultry and rabbit show.

Howard Vicary and his son David won supreme champion with one of their South Wales mountain rams in the first yearling males category. To receive supreme champion you have to win champion in the breed and then be the best overall of all breeds.

The elder Vicary (pictured) said: "To be supreme champion takes some getting. I'm very proud - I can't really believe it.

"We have had the best results this year. We have been here three times before."

He added: "It's hard work but very enjoyable."

Brooke Adams, 9, (pictured) came second in the two foot pony showjumping event. Michelle Thomas, of Islwyn Riding Club and Brooke's mother, said: "I'm so proud of her. She was double clear so she qualifies for Cricklands which takes place down at the David Broome Event Centre in Chepstow.

"Ioan James, 11, (pictured below) from Islwyn Riding Club has also qualified."

The show has previously been held at the showground in Blackwood but changed to a new venue this year.

Show secretary Sue Meudell said: “We seem to have a lot of people here so far.

"It is our first time here -it's more of a rural setting."

She added: "There's plenty to see and do here. Last year we had around 2,500 to 3,000 visitors we're hoping it will be 3,500 or more this year.

"The car parks are full. It seems to be going quite well. "
