A RISCA musician is set to release his first EP influenced by sci-fi films and comic books.

Johnathan Evans, 28, who goes by the name of Fan Octo, is a musician, producer, videographer and filmmaker.

He is set to release his first EP next month containing four songs in the genre of instrumental sci-fi metal.

Mr Evans said his work is influenced by sci-fi film scores such as Bladerunner and Interstellar.

He said: “It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to release music ever since I had my first guitar for Christmas when I was 14-years-old.

“I have written three of the songs for my EP which will be called Nexus Series – I’m hoping to release it in early September.”

The recent graduate finished his music production degree from the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, last month and is now freelancing, shooting music videos and producing the work of other local artists.

Mr Evans said: “Fan is a play on Jonathan. It was a nickname I was given many years ago and Octo as I play an eight-string guitar – it also has a weird sci-fi sound to it.”

The EP will be made up of guitar-based instrumental music. Mr Evans said the sci-fi metal scene is a niche market but globally there are quite a few bands playing this kind of music.

Mr Evans said: “I love the open territory of it. With sci-fi, deep space, it is always evolving. There is a wide range of sounds and it’s ongoing which appeals to me musically as it doesn’t box me in or limit what I can do.”

The musician can play guitar, drums and bass. Mr Evans has already released two music videos which he shot and edited himself.
